The Broken Hearts are Nisha and Amber who were predominantly DJ’s – both live and on radio. Well-known for their distinctive brand of spectacular DJ-ing, the Broken Hearts have played some of the most exclusive venues in the UK, as well as shows throughout New York, Paris, Moscow and Milan.
Their eclectic sets have been described by The Independent as "a Hollywood musical on hallucinogenics”, and they have played for brands such as Selfridges, Topshop, Paul Smith, Vivienne Westwood and Pernod Ricard. They have presented shows on Diesel Radio and QRadio, where their weekly music and culture show was described by Lauren Laverne as “a 60-minute shimmy across a different musical landscape every week."
On top of that they have created soundtracks to silent films, recorded songs using a live tap dancer as a beat and made their own music video.
They have also designed clothes inspired by sideshows and their 'Broken Hearts for Beyond the Valley' womenswear collection is available on www.asos.com. They have been featured throughout the style and fashion press, including British Vogue, i-D, and Grazia, including appearances at number 16 in the Observer ‘Cool List’ and at number 6 in Elle magazine's 'Hot 20'.
Broken Hearts have also made films about the history of the circus and they have even been Hula Hoop assistants!
What are they doing now?
Broken Hearts have just been appointed Brand Ambassadors for PYMCA (www.pymca.com), which is an incredible archive of youth culture and music from the past 7 decades. It's a huge and comprehensive resource, encompassing photography, film and text, and they are delighted to be involved.
The girls have recently come back from Istanbul where they DJ-ed an event as part of Fashion's Big Night Out (sponsored by Vogue) - while we were there we were featured in Turkish Vogue. See the blog post here.
They are also really excited about an upcoming clothing collaboration with Bebaroque. They make amazing hosiery and body suits and Nisha and Amber are going to be collaborating on some designs for Autumn/Winter 2011.
Broken Hearts will be performing at Carnival Ball and will have you up and out of your seats dancing in the famous Tower Ballroom.
